The context

TRUX runs a web and mobile platform for the material hauling, construction, and roadwork industry, including a two-sided marketplace that matches truck haulers with hauling jobs. The people using it are dispatchers in an office and drivers in a cab, often on a job site, so the product had to work for both at a glance. Vulcan Materials Company, the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates, acquired a controlling stake during my time there.

My role

As lead designer, I led and managed UI/UX across the platform: research, product direction with product and engineering, the design system, and high-fidelity design through production.

Research in the field

Throughout my time at TRUX, I visited plants, roadwork sites, and construction sites to watch crews, drivers, and operators work. What I saw there, not what people said in a meeting, shaped what we built.

Highlight: a tracking system that works for drivers

I led the effort and did the entire product design for a device-mounted tracking system for truck drivers. It uses real-time location and geofences to trigger actions automatically, so drivers don't have to stop and tap through steps while they work.

Designing for both sides of the marketplace

  • Turned dense scheduling, dispatch, and job data into screens office and field users understand at a glance.
  • Balanced the needs of haulers and job posters, who depend on each other for every job.
  • Led design of AI-driven features, designing for transparency so people could see what the system did and decide how far to trust it.

Systems and code

I created the TRUX design system for web and mobile, and used AI-assisted development to prototype and build front-end experiences faster.

Outcome

  • I ran the NPS survey program and followed up with customers directly. The most common feedback was "easy to use."
  • I joined customer presentations that helped win new accounts.
